As one of the pioneers of modern sound engineering, this project showcases our ability to manufacture products that have a strong legacy within the industry.
With our 70+ years of experience and reputation in the professional audio field, a client approached us to build a shielded impedance matching transformer according to the original, 30 year old specifications.
This project had a few notable challenges. Some of the materials that played a significant role in the construction of the original transformers proved difficult to procure.
However, our sourcing specialists made an exhaustive but successful search for raw materials with the correct “recipes.”
For example, to provide the same excellent noise attenuation, we manufactured the shielding cans from the same high permeability nickel alloy as the original product in order to eliminate interference problems due to stray magnetics fields or other noise source.
Winding and assembly also required a great deal of skill and attention to detail. By combining the technical competencies of our workforce with modern winding technologies and assembly processes, we built the new parts with very precise mechanical and electrical tolerances. Numerous quality checkpoints, from receipt of raw materials to the assembly of finished products, confirmed all units fully conformed to the client specification.
The high performance design of the shielded impedance matching transformer pictured here has withstood the test of time. This low level audio transformer offers excellent frequency response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, 20 mW of power, and 20K/5K to 20K/80K Ω impedance .
No other transformer offers such a wide frequency range and such effective magnetic shielding. The use of multiple interleaved cans offers more than 70 db of shielding, a vital characteristic to every professional concerned with the reproduction of sound. The beautiful appearance, unmatched performance, and long life are a few of the outstanding features of this quality transformer.
Comparison tests done by the client revealed our newly manufactured product was an identical match to their legacy equipment. We continue to produce them at the rate of approximately 2000/year.
